This is a plastic cabochon, fairly well domed. The image is applied to the underside of the cabochon, then a light spray sealer has been applied. This is a very nice design. I call it a heron or stork, not sure what the bird actually is. Regardless, I tend to have a lot of people buy birds that look like storks for new or expectant mothers. These are nice like our glass image cabochons less expensive but they certainly are more fragile. Care must be taken not to scratch the back or you can damage the image. Also we have tried gluing these in a setting and it seemed to work, but all glues are different. I would make a trial run with a couple pieces just to make sure the glue did not react in some way to the image. I would not use any solvents on the back of these.
