Tacks come with different size diameter heads. If you are soldering the item you might want a small head maybe 4mm but if you are gluing your items on you would want something larger maybe 10mm. The next consideration is the length of the post or pin. If it is going to be used as a actual tie tack then a longer post may be advisable as it has to go through more material, If you are using it as a scatter pin to go on a hat or something like that a shorter shaft will be better. Lastly make sure the clutch you get will fit on the post. The spring loaded clutch sometimes require the longer post. The simple pinch clutch most widely used fits on most anything.
